Lifemap - Tree of Life 2.0

Lifemap is a tool that offers an interactive journey through the Tree of Life, allowing users to explore by zooming and panning, akin to traversing geographic maps. Every node and tip on the tree is responsive, providing a brief description and image of the selected group upon interaction. These descriptions are sourced from Wikipedia.

In addition to exploration, Lifemap enables users to calculate and visualize the connections between two species or groups of species, as well as between any species and the root of the Tree of Life.

The displayed tree encompasses approximately 800,000 species and reflects a simplified version of the taxonomy curated by the NCBI (National Center for Biotechnology Information). Lifemap provides access to alternative versions of the Tree of Life for further exploration at http://lifemap.univ-lyon1.fr.

Developed by Damien de Vienne, a CNRS researcher at the Laboratory of Biometry and Evolutionary Biology (LBBE) in Lyon, France, Lifemap was created with assistance from the informatics department.
